Collective Identities in Central Europe in Modern Times
Zost.: Moritz Csáky Elena Mannová
The thirteen studies by representatives of Austrian and Slovak historiography, literary science, ethnology, musicology, theatrology and art history are concerned with the many layered shaping of collective identities in the Central European region. The historical memory of society in this region was not formed by a homogeneous national tradition, but by ethno-cultural plurality and heterogeneity. Using examples from literature, music, theatre, architecture, public urban space, funeral ceremonies and charity, the authors present rituals strengthening identity, the “storehouse” of collective memory and the media of identification policy.
