VZŤAHY MEDZI FANTASTICKÝMI PREDSTAVAMI STVÁRNENÝMI VO VÝTVARNOM UMENÍ A VO FOLKLÓRE
PhDr. Soňa Kovačevičová, DrSc.,
Gröslingova 49, 811 01 Bratislava, Slovakia
With the help of historiographic and iconographic evidence, folk oral
literature and maps from the Ethnographic Atlas of Slovakia, the author
arrives at the following conclusions:
The highest popularity of fantastic creatures occured in Slovakia in
the 16th-17th century, inter-connected with the value
orientation of the period, characterized by reformation, counter-reformation,
horrors of war and various persecutions. Before the mentioned period as
well as after it the bearer of these ideas were, in a conscious way, the
folk layers of population and, in a sub-conscious way, professional artists,
who by conveying their ideas through symbols and fantastic creatures searched
for the escape from various pressures of their times.

Moravia, Poland and Slovakia the author presents alternative sources of
